JAKARTA (Jurnalislam.com) – Counter Terrorism observer, Harits Abu Ulya rate, the government’s plan to close a number of social media as a form of deadlock is a blunder.
“If the government keeps pushing to block social media applications with its variants, that means it shows more deadlocks in thinking and this choice tends to be counterproductive and ineffective,” he said in a written statement to Jurnalislam on Tuesday (18/07/2017) .
According to Harits, the blocking will not have much effect in reducing or stopping the spread of terrorism-related content, because technology is growing rapidly and always provides many other options and alternatives.
“In the modern world, the state with its apparatus working in the cyber world has a great PR how to minimize the negative impacts especially the development of terrorism because of the existing technology,” explained Director of The Community of Ideological Islamic Analyst (CIIA).
On Saturday (15/07/2017) the government officially closed the domain name system Telegram. The government also threatened to close social media and sharing sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, to Youtube if not (then closing accounts containing the content of radicalism).
